Heue auf der 10. Etappe der Rallye Dakar konnten Robby Gordon und Dirk von Zitzewitz nicht ganz frei fahren. Wie wir nach dem IriTrack richtig vermutet haben, haben sie auf Jutta Kleinschmidt und Fabricia Pons gewartet, um dann als “fast assistance” hinterher zu fahren.
Für Dirk eine Selbstverständlichkeit, um für Volkswagen das bestmögliche Gesamtergebnis rauszuholen. Einmal haben sie Jutta und Fabricia heute aus dem Sand gezogen, somit hat sich die Assistance schon mal gelohnt.
Und es heisst ja auch nicht, dass es jetzt langsamer vorangeht, nur weil sie mit Jutta und Fabricia zusammen fahren. Die beiden Frauen sind nicht ohne Grund 3. in der Gesamtwertung …
Angehalten sind Robby und Dirk auch beim Unfall des Nissan von Gregoire de Mevius (321 ), der sich überschlagen hat. Glücklicherweise ist hier nichts schlimmes passiert.
Auch positiv: mit seiner Erkältung ist Dirk auf dem Weg zur Besserung.
Für Robby und Dirk ist das Rennen übrigens noch keinesfalls gelaufen. Ein Top 10 Platzierung wird noch angestrebt.

“Platz vier ist ein gutes Ergebnis – schließlich haben wir heute mehrfach angehalten. Etwa fünf Minuten haben wir an der Unfallstelle von Grégoire de Mevius verbracht, später halfen wir Jutta, als sie sich festgefahren hatte. Dirk hat wieder sehr gut navigiert, obwohl es im ersten Drittel einige Gemeinheiten im Roadbook gab.”

Thanks, Helge, we really enjoy the calls and information from Dirk. This is the only place we can hea bout his thoughts.
Despite waiting and stopping today, it seems that stage 10 has been extremely productive for them. The Dakar standings are now showing them in 10th position overall…there are still more drivers to finish the stage, but they will surely remain near the top 10 now. That is incredible, considering that just a few days ago they were in 101st. Bravo, boys.

auch wenn die DAKAR noch nicht vorbei ist, schon einmal ein Lob an Dich für diese aktuelle und fahrernahe Internetseite!!!!!
Noch zum Assistance-Fahren: Ich finde das schon in Ordnung (im Gegensatz zu einigen USA-Schreibern). Erstens ist das TEAM mit vier Fahrzeugen angetreten und zweitens haben Robby und Dirk nur noch sehr theoretische Aussichten auf einen Podiumsplatz. Damit ist es klar, dass alle auch wirklich alles daran setzen, ein Fahrzeug zumindest unter die ersten 3 zu bekommen. Aber warten wir einmal ab. Schon so manches Fahrzeug ist durch techn. Defekt oder Überschlag ausgeschieden oder zurückgefallen.

Noch eine andere Frage: Wo sind denn HENRARD / DE ROISSARD mit dem VW-Tarek abgeblieben? Gestern lagen sie noch auf dem 7. Platz im GK.

Henrard is shown as withdrawn in this segment. So is Masouka, who was shown as finishing earlier.

Hallo Helge, stimme Klaus zu, diese Seite macht wirklich Spaß.
Du hattest an anderer Stelle erwähnt, wie klasse es ist, wie sich auf diese Art im WWW kleine Communities finden. Bin auch begeistert, es ist einfach immer klasse, sich mit anderen auszutauschen. Und gut zu sehen, dass man nicht die einzige “positiv Bekloppte” weit und breit ist
So macht auch das Verfolgen und Mitfiebern bei der Dakar viel mehr Spaß! Drücke Dirk u. Robby mächtig die Daumen - und meiner Namensvetterin natürlich sowieso

Didn’t Masuoka have an engine failure today? I think that might be the reason for his withdrawal - but we’ll learn about that in about 10minutes I guess

Wow, today’s results are official now, they are in 11th place overall, a 10-place jump today, and a 90-place jump from just three days ago. Amazing. Now that is what I would call very very fast assistance indeed!

Conrats to the team. It only makes sence to work as a team from here on as they are 12hours behind the leader. If everyone in front of him continue normaly they wont advance much and chances of a 1st place are slim. RG made a comment the otehr day that he can’t wait to come back next year. Here in the US here is very underapreciated by the Media. I have seem him drive in Baja and other local desert spots and there is no one even close to his driving skill.

Klaus: Agreed, the teamwork today was impressive and justified. I do hope that together Robby and Jutta can get out and try to pressure the Mitsus somehow. They are too comfortable out in front now. I wonder if VW is being too conservative trying to protect Jutta’s comfortable third place. Are they just waiting for a couple more stages to make a move? With no pressure from VW there will likely no mistakes from Mitsu. Jutta will have to take this on herself, or send Robby out on a mission to try to mess with them. Chris Nissen’s boss will not be looking for a 3rd place trophy…Nissen is clever as you said. What do you think he has up his sleeve for the Mitsus? Your opinion is most respected here!

Thanks for the picture. I had no idea that the #321 wreck was so close to where Robby and Dirk were helping Jutta.
Guys, let’s put some pressure on the leaders tomorrow (although the shortened stage won’t help much in that regard)!!!

Kristina: De Mevius is still moving in that photo above, I don’t think that is exactly where he crashed. Earlier I saw some pics of his crash, looks bad. I will try to find it again and post a link.
By the way, there are great daily videos on the dakar.com site if you chose the french version from the home page.
Too bad you are not in California, we could have a Dakar-following party. (I am originally from VA by the way.)
