Die erste Etappe der Rallye Marokko 2007 ging an Volkswagen. Alle vier Race Touareg sind unter den Top 5. Gewonnen haben die Etappe Giniel de Villiers und Dirk von Zitzewitz, gefolgt von Carlos Sainz und Michel Perin, auf Platz 3 Carlos Sousa und Andreas Schulz, Platz 5 belegen hinter einem BMW Mark Miller und Ralph Pitchford. „Leider war es ein durchschnittlicher Tag für uns. Denn wir hatten ein Problem mit dem Sentinel-System, das beim Ãberholen die Fahrzeuge vor uns warnt. Deshalb hatten wir Schwierigkeiten, an einigen Motorrädern vorbei zu kommen, denn sie konnten uns nicht hören. Wir mussten zum Ãberholen neben die Strecke fahren und handelten uns dabei zwei Reifenschäden ein.“
Die erste Etappe der Marokko Rallye zitiert aus den Presseinformationen des Veranstalters:
The «Guy Hoquet 2007 Moroccan Rally» will start from Zagora’s airport. The first fifty km will follow the Oued Draa. This technical section to start with is followed by a windy stony hill climb to reach the Djebel Bani Al Foun AnaganÂ. This broken track runs, between ancient tombs, to the Oued Araroum. A faster track will then lead upwards to 1074m of altitude, this being the only way to the impressive crater of Tafenna. The exit lies to the east through abandoned mining facilities and into a large deep valley than runs for about 100kms. Speed Caution is of the upmost whilst going through the populated areas .A sharp rise denotes the exit passage to the downhill on the other side, this being the last tricky bit of the day. Then 45km of fast track to find the finish at the base of the Nakhla Dunes.
